Please have a look at photos, we would like to raise the base board height to 1000mm to accomodate a new camper tent, currently, the height from the ground to the bottom of this base is 800mm. We need to think about waterproofing and access to the storage area, this tent is way past its use by date but we still use the trailer as a trailer as well so need to be able to detach the camper tent as well, without being to heavy to lift off.

Have you considered selling the camper as is and buying a new 1000mm trailer. It may in the end cost the same and save countless manhours in a trailer renovation that will look a bit Frankensteinish.

Just a thought. Cheers

If the above option isnt suitable try going to a sheet metal guy and have him fold you so new sides, you can then bolt these sides onto the trailer permanently just remove the top when needed.

As Snow said it could look a little odd with just adding 200mm for the height increase, I would agree with Pauly though on getting extensions folded for the sides, also have a look on the axel is it on or under the springs. If it is on the springs, an axel flip might give you close to 100mm.

i know that it will give me more height, but, does it change any of the towing  characteristics of the trailer, any dangers i should know with doing that? Cheesy

Is it feasible to build a 200 deep ply box that is actually attached to the underside of the tent floor and is removed when the tent is removed? I would think something that sits on the sides/front with a lip on the inside or outside to keep it in place would work. Add some cross and longtitudinal members to stiffen it up (and add more storage areas) and use some over centre catches to secure it. The cover from the tent could come down and fix to the ply box. This would be a pretty cheap solution.

You will also need to change the trailer coupling height so the trailer sits relatively flat, the front down slightly, if there is too much angle down by flipping the axel it puts extra load on the draw bar weight.

Thanks for the info! That changes things a lot. We only tow with a station wagon and that may prove difficult to do , as the trailer tows so well now. "champin" slide on camper thread looks like our way to go, thanks again! Cheesy
