Hi Guys,
I have an 05 GU 4.2 TDI and im in the process of looking for a snorkel.
My dilemma is I don't know which 1 to go for.
I installed a safari snorkel to a mates 3 ltr yesterday and although I like the quality of the safari's ( I had a safari on a GQ) My problem is that when I showed the wife the finished product she didn't like how it sticks out from the pillar.
I then went searching and she now prefers the genuine Nissan/ airtec which I know are exactly the same unit. I realise the Nissan snorkels have the issue with leaking around the Nissan badge, Which I will rectify before fitting if we decide to go down that path.
My problem is which snorkel do I go for and if its possible could you post up side on photos on the vehicle that way the minister of finances can decide.
Please don't post photos of stainless snorkels and yes there bloody good but I know for sure she wont allow them.
I know how hard/ fiddly the safari snorkel was to fit but who has fitted what and how did you run into any issues fitting it.
Thanks Guys

I realise that you have a Nissan but hopefully these may give some idea of position as I'm assuming the pillars won't be too different. Have taken some from driver & navigator possies! Good luck with it! I got mine professionally done as I wasn't too sure about how the insurance would go if DIY?

Safari.
X1 Million......in the voice of Dr Evil........:-)

I do realise the safari is better but I also don't like the look of it against the pillar.
Wholehog for your information I have a set but the patrol is our car combined so therefor I have to allow her to have a say.
Still open for ideas

If you ever want to fit a Donaldson pre-cleaner then Safari is the only option.
-
I had mine fitted for dynamics. The cosmetic aspect never crossed my mind!!!
But you've got to keep the peace I suppose ;D

After a couple of weeks you wont even notice it any more. Get the one that does the jog right and be happy that it will work as it should.
While I know the dramas of trying to find something that looks right and works right, sometimes one has to give way to the other and in this case I think you are better off letting the performance of the Safari dictate over the asthetics.

There are ways around that, for the creative.......
I went with a Nissan snorkel 'cos I prefer the styling. Couldn't see anything in the Safari that would make them any better.

I know if im wrong someone will correct me but I have been told that the airtec has a bigger opening than the safari. Also apparently the airtec flows better.
Can anyone shed some truth behind this please.........
-
My Nissan snorkel (Airtec) has a 3.5" opening at the top.
I believe the Safari snorkels have a 3" opening (happy to be corrected).
I've never understood the almost fanatical worshipping that Safari seem to get.
It's just a plastic tube........

Is it the shine of the stainless snorkels she doesn't like?
If so paint / powder coat it.
It would cost you less

She doesn't like the look of it but I'm not keen on how they mount.

ever thought of designing your own?
Ive seen countless amounts of different metal snorkel designs, some horrors that resemble spaghetti some works of art...advantage is you can make it match the angle preferences of your choice, the mounting area (guard entrance) and they're durable.
but each to their own I guess....good luck

My one was already fitted and am happy with it. Here are some pics of it. Let me know if you need anymore.
