You both make good points and I think your right that its the bad owners that create the problem.  I have just spent the best part of 2months rewriting our councils dog management policy.

Sweet mercy its a trial.  This thread, and the one before it, are childs play compared to the arguments from both sides.  Every council meeting is like kindergarden with the most stupidist arguments from owners and non owners.  Even a simple lawful change like allowing dogs on lead to walk down our local beach - IN WINTER -has been met with the sky will fall in

A feral kid, doesn't matter how feral (well...maybe bogan feral) won't usually bite a child on the face and leave permanent scarring.

That's my real problem with dogs.  Seen it happen, don't want it to happen to my kids.

I take your point fun police, but a dog attack can happen walking down any street,  or to kids playing in their own front yard. I don't believe this is a valid argument for this topic. Most of the dogs I have seen in camp grounds are small toy dogs and the odd elderly Lab,  granted all dogs can turn if provoked, I don't agree that the odd dog in a camp ground increases the chance of a child being attacked.

Griz, we're the same.  My misses & I hang out at the grey nomad parks (when we're not in the bush) with our two pugs and our 9 month old.  Prefer the company of the oldies...

Can't stand BiG4's dog rules.  Cant do this, must do that...bugger it, prefer Top Tourist parks where common sense prevails.  We're not stupid, and don't need 101 rules to dictate how we should respect others.  It's common sense.  If our dogs disturb others, we're the first to reprimand them.  Also don't need to be told to pick up our dogs poo.  Guess what, if we're going to the trouble of bringing them along, keeping them clean to stay in the camper, chances are we can put 2 and 2 together and work out that we should clean up after our pugs.

Don't ever go to Scotland then as you will get mugged by 12 yo for you iPod and smokes.

Fair point.  It's about balanced risk I suppose.  Bit like me riding in the caravan park over Christmas and colliding with a teenager playing frisbee - and copping 3 broken ribs - NO helmet - could have been worse

To me it's simple ....  We only camp n locations where we can take our dog, if you don't like dogs go to place that don't take dogs..... everyone's happy. 

We have spend a lot of time working with our dog on it's social manners.  I spent a lot of time with my kids trying to teach them the same sort of things.  When the kids were young we were heavily involved in working gun dog competitions.  One of the rules we had instilled into our kids was don't touch anyone else's dog.  But he also watched our kids like a hawk, like dog ownership it is a responsibility, and like dog ownership without the proper "training" (pun intended) they fail to be socially responsible.

Our dog does not roam and if any kids come up we watch both the dog and the kids ( I can trust the dog but not sure about some kids).  We have just come back from a week in a caravan park that accepts dogs and enjoyed our time so much we are going for 2 weeks next year.

Hey Pete I think thats the point.  Big 4 didnt allow dogs and now they are considering it.  So for those that stayed at big 4 because of that policy are not happy that its changing. (my take anyway) Their argument quite legit would be the mirror image "we only camp where you cant take dogs, if you want to take your dog find somewhere that takes them"   

I had a chat to one of the fellas who have gun dogs they are using on macquarie island to kill the rabbits.  They were saying they stop on command and stay still while they shoot the rabbitr.  I asked if the dogs ever make mistakes.  "they only make a mistake once...."

I love well trained dogs.  Our border collie cost a packet load and comes from a really great breeder.  Its controllable simply by looking at it.  It moves when you nod, stops when you shake your head.  Smarter than my kids I reckon

While we don't camp with a dog (he recently passed away), we enjoy dogs as long as they are well behaved (along with their owners).  I really think at the end of the day that if a dog is misbehaving that badly then I would imagine that the owners would be asked to leave the park. 
On the whole people who head out camping do so to get away from their normal lives and respect the fact that other people are also out there for the same reason.  I probably am more concerned with the behaviour (at times) of some of the kids.  Most are well behaved but some just think they are entitled to do and say what they want, probably the same behaviours they exhibit at home anyway.
