Hubby has driven 80 % of our trip around oz So far but i do offer all the time but he hates being a passenger. I did drive most of the Gibb river road as i also occasionally get bored as passenger too which he forgets. I am ok at trailer reversing but its the age old saying practice makes perfect. Even Hubby says he's not 100 % at trailer reversing but getting better considering its our permanent home at the moment.
After seeing an older lady loose her partner suddenly while they travelled oz where she didn't even have a licence and they were on a highway 100km north of Carnarvon WA, i believe everyone needs to at least know how to hook up and drive in an emergency. This lady had sadly been stuck in Carnarvon for 4 months by the time we met her as no money to put her bus on a truck to east coast, no licence to drive herself (she had never been behind the wheel So had no idea where to start either), and her family couldn't help either $ wise. We managed to pull some strings and get a wonderful company to pick her bus and trailer up and pick up the tab as well as fly her home. Moral of the story, at the very least everyone needs to at least know how to pack up on your own and hook up, even if its only to the nearest town. Doesn't matter if you are not that confident. Just need to know you can do it. If you practice it, obviously the better off you are. If you have kids, teach them how to at least put everything away ready to set off.
