She sure is Pottsy,
Raining atm(not heavy), can hear thunder in the distance all around us, it's gone still.
?

Looks like it split, went either side of us, we are at the blue dot.
The yellow circle with the number, is the amount of lightening strikes.

heh heh heh... that's cute...

over XMAS we had the community generator go out at 2am. It was 34 degrees.

Thankfully it came on again around 3.30am

until mid Jan we were hitting low 40's every day. with the occasional 46 degree melter.

But now that the wet is (almost) upon us... we're sitting at 34-38 daily. (but the minimum overnight is also 28.

So is everybody in SEQ prepped & ready ???

BoM says http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDQ65002.shtml. but other models have Alfie potentially crossing anywhere from Noosa down to the NSW border! :-\

Reading an article yesterday that the last actual active cyclone recorded in the SE Coast weather region was in 1974! :o I remember that one, as I was at High School at the time & remember saying Hmm, 2pm, it should be dead level with us now? However, it was "only" Cat 1 & either 20 or 40 miles out to sea.

Everything since then had already dropped below cyclone strength when it passed through the official SEQ area itself, although a few of them (eg Debbie) still dropped buckets swimming pools of rain!

So this is going to be a real wake-up for the ~80% of the population that has never seen one!

When I pushed a pen for a crust it was always considered a risk among an insurer's worst nightmares. A cyclone has never crossed the coast at Brisbane since white fellas have been keeping records but meteorologists know it is possible. Hail storms in Sydney and Melbourne have been among the worst losses in Oz but another one that has them trembling at the knees is a major earthquake in Melbourne or Sydney. Again possible but nothing yet. Newcastle earthquake got them nervous. There was never any consideration given to a bushfire impacting a major capital as far as I can remember. I suspect recent events in LA may have changed that. It is these "worst case" scenarios that determine how much an insurer retains and at at what point they seek offshore reinsurance.

Good luck to everyone and if it does look like hitting the coast keep ya heads down.

We have panic buying in Maclean & Grafton.
Grafton yesterday, on our way home. Coles was packed.
Maclean this morning, IGA, the same thing, 4x4 & caravans parked everywhere.
Our local store, here in Lawrence, one of the staff told me he had two phone calls from people wanting to know how much duct tape they had, to tape up the windows.

Are we still supposed to do that, or is modern glass shatter resistant enough ???

Oh, & you're included in the Watch that's just been issued, as well!

This a Cyclone map, of cyclones since 1971.
The use of the term cyclone, when the system moved south was removed a few years, they are an East Coast Low now

The Building code of Australia, use to have W41 down as far as Coffs Harbour, but I believe that changed when the word cyclone wasn't used for a system south of the qld/nsw border.
38km's Grafton is from the coast.
Those in Lismore, must be Crapping Bricks atm.

Thanks for that!

I'm thinking of "Zoe" in 73-74, who by this actually crossed the coast at the bottom end of the GC, on 12/3/74 at ~980 thingies!

I was 8 years old, living in Ballina at the time when that cyclone crossed the coast.
I remember the noise, the howling of the wind.

By the look of things, you may be hearing it again!

http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDQ65002.shtml

Forecasts has moved a track a little further south, now crossing south of Brisbane, with the main effects being centred on the GC :'( :-\

Sorted, I've just geared my maintenance business to include acerage with the Cox Zero Turn.
So I've got near 80 litres of fuel on hand.
It's only a 70km trip the long way round to Grafton if the Lawrence road floods.
