For those suffering from depression
« on: December 03, 2014, 10:14:12 AM »
I never once thought this would ever happen to me.

Well let me tell you it has,

I will give you a bit of background on the matter. My wife and I first met roughly 4 years ago (both of us are now 29year olds) we then decided to tie the knot roughly 14 months later and while yes as every newly married couple have there petty arguments everything was going along just rosey until October last year when the wife discovered a small lump in her breast. After extensive testing it was discovered to be a melanoma.

Now she is not the type to sun bake and always covers up in the sun. Well we decided to do further scans and it was at this point we found she has roughly 12-16 minute melanomas throughout the chest area. The doctor has then pointed out that there was nothing he could do including no treatment available apart from a trial which has never been tried on humans before and he said he wouldn't try it due to the dangerous side effects. The doctor has then said he has given her a 20% chance to last 2 years and a 5% chance to last 5 years.

Well we fast forward another 12 months and she has been suffering migraines for the past 4 weeks. Well eventually we decided to get a head scan done, well we have more bad news the cancer has now spread to the rear of the frontal lobe (brain).

I will say the hardest thing in life is was your loved 1 waking up every morning in pain and vomiting due to the headaches in which the doctors can only prescribe panadol.

All I can say to everyone is when you finish reading this is to go hug your family and cherish all the good times and forget about the little petty rubbish. As this can happen to anyone of us

I want to clarify 1 thing. I never started this thread for people to feel sorry for me. I started it for anyone feeling down or depressed to post up about why your feeling down and we as a "MYSWAGGER" family can all pick everyone up again.

Thnx for sharing Maverick01.
It's a good reminder of several things:
1-never take life for granted.
2-if we're doing it tough, every chance someone's doing it tougher.
3-we're all part of a great community that will listen, read, provide advice and support when and if needed.

Wishing you guys all the best support and help as needed.

I know where you are coming from mate,

My daughter when she was born was constantly in pain. And I mean the pain where if she wasn't screaming she was throwing up because of it.
She is doing better now and doesn't get the chest pain as much due to the medication, however it is the hardest thing in the world knowing that you are powerless to help,  :'(

Every time I look at her though, when she is happy or when she accomplishes something new I cannot describe how proud I am of my little fighter.

I really feel for you mate, and I sincerely hope that no matter what that you continue to have good times together. Sometimes when I am really feeling the pain of what my daughter is going through she just smiles at me and everything seems ok for a bit..

My thoughts are with you guys, If I can help in anyway send me a PM. Happy to chat.

Cheers

Don't give up, whatever you do, don't give up.

At 49, a very close friend/mate/ex-colleague of mine, went to his GP with a small lump behind his knee.  Melanoma.  Given three months.  Fast forward two years and he is still kicking.  Suffered a hell of a lot.  Multiple ops, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, drug trials, change of diet and life style but still with us.  One tough bastard with an amazing attitude and will to live.  Thought I had lost him last week but he pulled through.  Won't be long and we are all expecting it, including him.  But mate, don't give up whatever you do.

Good luck and best wishes to your wife.  Keep smiling, stay strong, she needs you.

KB

Oh, and no idea what is OK anymore.  Too much crap in life these days.  The important thing is that somebody asks you if you are OK and then listens.  Sometimes that is all that is needed.  We are listening.  PM if you want to chat off line.

I don't think there is any set answer to that question. Don't be afraid to seek help from someone if you feel the walls closing in and can't find the door.
I have found this mob to be a lifesaver.

Thats ok mate. After talking with the docs, the best thing I can do to keep the lights on is talk openly about it. Be it on here or with people over a brew.
Dark times happen to most people. However different the reasons may be, the emotions and pain can be very similar. Openly talking about things, even if you feel silly about it, is just another way to open the door. (I hope that makes sense.)

Thanks to everyone that's expressed your opinion on this matter. I'm sure there will be plenty more opinions and advice to come.

This post has just made me realise how close the MYSWAGGER family actually is.

People from all around has offered there support whether it be talking to them or steering me or even someone else in a different direction. It truly amazes me the support this forum offers

Have you heard about this web site  http://milowise.com/ and the book,  Fingers Crossed, Across Australia?   We went up to Outback Adventures Supa Centre at
Morayfield and bought it and it is a great read.
We are stuck in Brisbane for 6 or 7 weeks with me getting zapped in the head, fun fun fun, but as my wife and I sit in the cancer treatment waiting room each day we see so many patients and it certainly puts a different slant on life.  Me, I am always on a high after each zap because I know my tumour is not cancerous. After two operations they are now using some brilliant radiation techniques to kill it off.  Don’t want operation number 3, not getting any younger you know.
Maverick01 I really feel for you guys.    And to everyone else, yes stop putting fences up to stop you heading off.  Do it now!!!!!    >:(  Kevin

Maverick01,

I really feel for both you and your wife as the big C is a horrible disease especially considering she is still so young. Hopefully your Wife is one of lucky ones who goes into remission.

My thoughts are with you.

I have been thinking about posting this up for a few weeks now but I thought this morning bugger it there are people out there that can help but also other people much worse off than us.

For anyone suffering this disease. Pm me and I can give you some info on foods to avoid to maximise your chance of survival.

The doctors won't tell you what foods to avoid while diagnosed with the "C" word.

This is a little different seeing your Wife is so young, but I remember when Dad was diagnosed with Cancer at 68 during one of this initial appointments a young Dr started talking about a healthy diet and giving up Alcohol all together. When the young Dr Left, the older specialist told Dad in a nice way that for his type of Cancer and age there isn’t going to be any miracle cure, so eat and drink what you like. Dad wasn’t a thin man, but I truly believe those extra Kilos helped during the tough times when he was too sick to eat.

There are always people out there worse off than you, but this doesn't mean you have to put on a brave face and soldier on in silence.

You are entitled to feel like 5h1t. Its a human emotion. You should be allowed to express yourself and talk about how you feel.
Its has helped me deal with many things over the years.

Other posters have mentioned places to get help and there are a few others.
USE THEM.
They may or may not help, but what have you got to lose?
The myswag community is also a terrific help.
I am always happy to talk Shit or just sit in silence and listen if anyone needs an ear.
My place is always open to a swagger in need.

Just get out there, talk and ask.
We're all human, and most all of us here care.

when you have hit a rock bottom cycle how ever physically and mentally painfull it is it's bloody important, imperative to talk then talk some more but recognising it to being with is huge!!

I don't think doctors give out diet advice when going through treatment because most of them don't know. My mum seeked out a dietitian when going through breast cancer and where watching with baited breath a relative with secondary bone cancer do the same thing. Diet change with treatment is a great thing but not an alternative

Unfortunately nobody can guarantee there is a cure for this terrible disease.

When I mentioned about changing diet, I should have been a bit more clearer about it. Unless you research how cancer survives nobody will tell you that cancer actually survives mostly on SUGAR. So if you minimise your sugar intake you may minimise the cancer of spreading. Now the missus has cut out pretty much all sugars since October last year but has recently slipped up in the past 4months.

Now I'm not saying by cutting out sugar the cancer will survive but when your in a situation like she is then you will try absolutely anything at all.

I take my hat of to her for cutting out sugar as in this day and age it's almost impossible to do

Here's hoping for you and your wife Maverick01. I have always been a believer in the power of positive thought so stay positive and optimistic. Years ago I researched Percy's powder for my wife's grandfather and my mum. It was a big call to drop everything and commit to it and I do not blame them one bit. They have both passed. I have attached a link which may give some info and I actually got some when they were still selling it from home in Eurobin in the North East. Now it seems all the Health stores are selling it in some form or another.
I have no affiliation and no proof whether it works or not but it is a science based on acidity and alkalinity of the soils from which our food comes from. Good luck with everything.

It is when the chips are down you realise how many wonderful people are out there ready to offer their love and support, even if they have never met you.  Make sure you take up their offers.

My thoughts and best wishes are with you both.
