everything that was cool and hip during the 60's and 70's, was quickly corrected in the 80's.

It will be 50 years ago on the 13th of this month since the Brisbane trams stopped running.

I was 9 at the time, but remembered the trams well.....

Anyone remember the tram depot opposite the P A Hospital on Ipswich road?
Or the Crown Stoves factory on Logan road at Holland park?

Speaking of trams, when I joined Sydney Buses back 1977, a lot of the old tram drivers and conductors where still on the job as Bus Drivers and conductors, the meal room was a very interesting place, with the old Tram Conductors in one corner old trams drivers in another and Bus drivers and bus conductors using the other two corners and they did not like the new bus driver/conductor blow ins, it was a silent bus if you got a shift with an old tram driver or conductor ;D

Mate of mine's mrs has run that place for the last 10 years.

My managing director's family had the caravan park just up creek Rd from there too.

Sounds a bit like what QRail is like these days, the existing drivers and guards will put barriers up to stop new staff joining and training, but that is a union sanctioned outcome endorsed by the labour government.

Or the Crown Stoves factory on Logan road at Holland park?

My Grandparents lived a little bit further up the road (Sackeral St or similar?)  beside Crown Stoves from the late thirties till 1961, My grandfather was gassed in world war 1 and worked as a tram conductor for most of his life after returning home as he only had half of one lung functional and couldn't do heavy work, so the council retrained him as a conductor.

Used to love going done there as a kid in the early fifties, he used to take me all over the place to all the points the trams ran too, as he had a free pass

"Wonderful World of Disney"
Saw part of the opening credits the other night on TV. Not sure why it was on but instant flashback to being a kid and watching a Disney movie on Sunday nights with the family.
