I’ve scraped a few dollars together and now ordered a defib which will sit in my home when we’re here and go into our touring kit when we’re on the road.

I’m also now hosting a fortnightly zoomlink with Guy Leech and a mix of other people from bikkie dippers, tradies, sales people on the road and small/medium business owners. If anyone’s interested in joining in, the next one is on Tues 16th June at 1pm or 7pm. Send me a pm on here and I’ll hook you up.
so hows this all going

thanks Fizzie, There’s been 4 individual lives saved by Defibs I’ve put into local businesses and trained the teams across Aus.  I’ll try and upload the news article next.  We’ve been able to get several hundred Defibs out into communities through real estate agents, pharmacies, opticians, gyms & tradies.. It’s also been great to have the Yellow Wiggle out spruiking about his incident as it all raises awareness. In addition retail prices of the medical grade Defibs have come down by approx $500 and there’s a new TGA approved single use light weight defib now on the market that retails for approx $400 but this unit has a 12month battery shelf life and needs to be replaced annually. If you do the comparison on the single use unit & the medical grade Heartsine units over an 8 year period, which is the life of the medical grade unit,  the cost is pretty much the same, but I am thinking about buying the single use unit for hiking as much lighter.
The SA Gov is currently considering legislation to have Defibs in all commercial businesses over a certain size and lots of Caravan Parks have been able to access Gov/Council funding to install one in their office or Rec area.

It was about listing all the AED in you suburb...

What’s the best app to download??

Replying to an old post, but just saw reference to this through OSM:

https://openaedmap.org/#map=3/-27.42/138.68

So far, though, it only lists 244 in Oz, which is nowhere near the amount there actually are ??? :'(

I know that I'v elisted some on OSM that aren't showing up, so I'll be doing some chasing to try & find out why not ???

What great work you are doing!

I have personally purchased both a second hand refurbished CARDIAC SCIENCE POWERHEART AED G3 that had a new battery and pads installed and one of the small CellAED which is the lightweight version for approx $400.

https://cellaed.io/au is where you can get the lightweight one use version.

I originally purchased this after a family member had a very close call with a total heart block (not cardiac arrest) but prompted me to look into this as at 46 i am only getting older, and we were doing a remote trip to NT with a bunch of blokes over 45, it though it was good insurance and thank fully nothing happened and wasn't needed. I have since had 2x stress tests and a CT Angiogram personally and thank fully given a clean bill of health.

I have the AED G3 which stays at my home or comes in the car with us when going away, and i have also lent my CellAED to a friend who is travelling around australia.

i think its a must in your travelling kit, especially as we got older, so its well worth looking into, and its good to see so many pop up in community spaces as well.

There recently been a radio advertising campaign asking the same question as the thread title.

People are being encouraged to learn the basics. Apparently, it only takes 15 minutes. I need to get my arse into gear and do it. Not sure if it will work in Aus, but anyway…

RevivR is our free, interactive, online CPR training course. In just 15 minutes, you can learn how to save a life and receive your very own CPR certificate.
